MacBook Pro

Ouw Biggest Statement Yet

The longest-lasting Mac notebook battery ever.
The battery in the new 17-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge1 and can be recharged up to 1000 times2 — compared with only 200 to 300 times for typical notebooks. To do this, Apple engineers custom-designed lithium-polymer cells to create the largest possible battery, then they went even further: They built the battery right into the computer, eliminating the space-consuming mechanisms and housings that standard removable batteries require. The result is a battery that’s 40 percent bigger than the previous generation and offers up to 8 hours of wireless productivity on a single charge — all in a notebook that’s less than an inch thin, weighs just 6.6 pounds,3 and remains the same price as the previous-generation model.
Details

But building a battery that lasts up to 8 hours is only part of the story. Giving it a lifespan of up to 1000 recharges required breakthroughs in battery technology. Apple electro-chemists developed advanced chemistry that maintains the battery’s charging capabilities longer than ever. And while most notebooks wear down their batteries by charging them at a constant rate, the 17-inch MacBook Pro takes a different approach. Using an Apple-developed technology called Adaptive Charging, a microchip on the battery constantly communicates with the computer to determine the optimal way to charge its cells, adjusting the current up and down depending on a variety of conditions. Combined, these advancements offer a dramatic improvement in battery lifespan: more than three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries — up to five years. Learn more and watch a video

Here are some improvements made as summarized below:
[r1927] - Eliminate https indexing in local history file
In older version of Google Chrome, it has indexed the content of searchable history pages include any sites using SSL security locally, such as online bank transaction and credit card information. This could be risky and create chance for people to steal your privacy data. With this latest version, it doesn’t index https content and any data from secure pages will not be kept in local history. In other word, nobody will able to find data from secure site that you have just visited.

[r1978] - Stop sending data to suggest service
Google Chrome stops sending data to suggest service from preventing user data being exposed if the URL matches the patterns as below:
• starts with http:// or https:// and includes username (example: http://myname@abc.com)
• starts with http:// or https:// and includes query (example: http://abc.com/?p=745)
• starts with https:// and includes path component (example: https://abc.com/path)

[r1859] - Fix flash video unable to play issue when user moves the slider to fast forward the video clip. Flash will throw an error to Google Chrome that it should stop the existing stream when user moves the slider. However, Google Chrome does not catch and handle this error that causes it to download the video clips multiple times from multiple offsets. The connection will be saturated when user moves the sliders 6 times since it only allows 6 connections per host.

[r2059] - Allow JavaScript to communicate with Java applets.
[r1299] - Ensure “contextmenu” events is dispatched after “mouseup”.
[r1692] - Fix 3dvia plugin crashes problem by initializing NPObject pointer to NULL and check for NPERR_NO_ERROR along with the error check.
[r1848], [r1943], [r2003] - The fixes is to make Google Chrome more reliable.

If you are worried about your privacy data has been indexed, please refer to the instruction for clearing the browser’s history. In case you have previous version of Google Chrome installed in your PC, you should get an automatic update within the next few days when the news was announced.

Everything Apple Means Everything Just Work

Everything Apple means everything works together.

With Apple, you don’t just get a collection of individual tools. You get a fully integrated and complete digital learning environment. Where one piece is designed to work with every other piece. Which means the photo application you’re using will be compatible with the operating system, and they’ll both use the same key commands.
A truly integrated system also makes it easier to move content from one application to the next. For example, educators and students can create a movie with iMovie and then easily incorporate that movie into a Keynote presentation. It’s just as easy to collaborate and share ideas, whether it’s from opposite sides of the classroom or opposite sides of the world. Integration even presents fewer technical challenges for IT. So rather than spending precious time (and money) getting things working and keeping them working, the IT department can spend its time providing new capabilities and resources for your institution.

It’s a simple idea, really. When technology just works and it’s always easy to use, everyone is free to focus on what really matters — creating, sharing, and learning.

AVG Free 8.0 for the first time in Polish!
AVG unveils AVG Free 8.0, designed to fully address Polish users’ needs for basic protection against viruses, spyware, and web exploits. Enjoy safe and worry-free online experience now in Polish.

Amsterdam – December 9th, 2008 - AVG Technologies, a global Internet security software provider with over 85 million users in 167 countries, today announces the availability of the first Polish language version of its popular and widely-used AVG Free 8.0 security software. From now on, the Polish version of AVG 8.0 free may be downloaded from: Download Now .

“In AVG we believe that all users, regardless of income, should be able to protect their computers against the most common Internet threats,” said AVG Technologies’ chief executive officer JR Smith. “Our goal is to provide the most user friendly and most comprehensive free solution to the Polish users. That is why AVG Free 8.0 is now available in Polish.”

AVG Free 8.0 goes beyond the protection provided by other free security products to deliver just-in-time protection against drive-by downloads - invisible threats that can download malware onto a user’s computer without the user taking any action at all. This invisible infection process is the fastest-growing threat on the Internet today, and is widely used by organized criminals for identity theft and other commercial gain. These threats can be hidden in any type of website, and may remain on any given site for an hour, a day, or a week; the length of time a site remains infective often depends on how many visitors the site gets, as the criminals distributing the malware frequently have a target quota of information to steal.

The transient nature of these threats means they are impossible to track down using conventional anti-virus or anti-spyware products or, for that matter, most “safe-surfing” products. AVG’s unique Safe-Search protection is different because it protects users at the only time that matters – when they click on a url in a search results page. Users of Google, Yahoo and MSN searches will see a ‘danger – do not go here’ message when they try to access one of these poisoned pages. To make it even easier for users to protect themselves against these new threats, Safe-Search works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers, and is incorporated into the new AVG Security Toolbar so it’s always at hand.

AVG’s commercial products have been available in Polish for several years, but this is the first time the company has released a localized version of the free product.

AVG Free 8.0 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers running Windows 2000, XP or Vista. While AVG Technologies does not provide support for AVG Free 8.0, the company hosts a website and forum for user-driven support at http://free.avg.com.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 wins ComputerBild test

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 wins ComputerBild test

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management systems, announces that Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 has won a comparative test conducted by ComputerBild, a major European IT magazine.

The test review published in the December issue of the magazine ranks Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 in first place ahead of nine other antivirus solutions, including Norton Internet Security, G Data Internet Security and BitDefender Internet Security. The Kaspersky Lab product detected and removed over 379,000 malicious programs used in the test, achieving a threat detection rate of 99.24%.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 won special kudos from the reviewers for its proactive detection technology that is used to block as yet unknown malware. The Kaspersky Lab solution used its application activity control module to detect and block 55% of ‘unknown’ threats whose signatures had been deliberately removed from antivirus databases by the testers. “The behavior blocker integrated into the new antivirus solution from Moscow turned out to be the most effective of those tested,” the experts at ComputerBild stressed. “Kaspersky Lab has set a new standard for behavior-based detection of malicious programs.”

The firewall included in the Kaspersky Lab solution was among the best of those tested by ComputerBild, providing protection not only from Internet attacks but also from theft of user data by hackers.

The Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 spam filter also demonstrated maximum effectiveness. Furthermore, the magazine’s experts determined that Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 has minimal effect on system performance: for example, launching the program increases the operating system startup time by a mere two seconds.

According to the magazine’s editors, “Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 combines ease of use with maximum effectiveness in its class, making it a solution of choice both for inexperienced and expert users.”

The new version 2009 Kaspersky Lab personal products, which were released in mid-2008, are based on a completely new antivirus engine, offering significantly improved scanning speed. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, an integrated solution, includes a unique application activity filtering module that incorporates a HIPS system, an improved firewall, a spam filter and a parental control module. The solution makes working in the global Internet environment worry-free for users.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 were developed with the requirements of Windows Vista in mind, ensuring both products’ full compatibility with 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the operating system.

For more information on the features available in the new-generation Kaspersky Lab antivirus products, please view the Home and Home Office product section of the Kaspersky Lab website. Windows Update web site

Windows Update web site
Windows Update version 3 in Windows 98

Windows Update was introduced with the launch of Windows 98 as a web site. A link to Windows Update on the Start Menu gave access to additional downloads for the operating system. At the time of Windows 98's release, Windows Update offered additional desktop themes, games, device driver updates, and optional components such as NetMeeting.[1] The initial focus of Microsoft's marketing of Windows Update was on free add-ons and new technologies Windows, and security fixes for Outlook Express, Internet Explorer and other applications appeared later, as well as access to beta versions of upcoming Microsoft software, most notably Internet Explorer 5. Fixes to Windows 98 to resolve the Year 2000 problem were distributed using Windows Update in December 1998. Microsoft attributed the sales success of Windows 98 in part to Windows Update.[2]

Windows Update requires Internet Explorer or a third-party web browser that uses Microsoft's MSHTML layout engine. This necessity stems from the use of an ActiveX control to house the software that is executed on the user's computer. While the underlying implementation details have changed from version to version, its basic purpose of scanning the user's computer to see what operating system components and software is installed, and comparing the versions of those components with what is offered by Windows Update. The ActiveX component then interfaces with Windows Installer in order to install or update those components, and to report the success or failure of those installations back to Microsoft's servers.

The first version of the Windows Update web site (usually referred to as "v3") did not require any personally identifiable information to be sent to Microsoft. In order for the v3 ActiveX control to determine what updates were needed, the entire list of available software on Windows Update was downloaded to the user's computer when they visited the Windows Update web site. As the number of updates offered by Windows Update grew, this resulted in performance concerns. Arie Slob, writing for the Windows-help.net newsletter in March 2003, noted that the size of the update list had exceeded 400KB, which caused delays of more than a minute for dial-up users.[3]

Windows Update v4, released in conjunction with Windows XP in 2001, changed this by having the ActiveX control submit a list of the hardware components to Microsoft's servers, which then returns a shortened list of device drivers that are available for that machine. It also narrowed down the list of available updates for the operating system and related components by sending details of what operating system version, service pack, and locale are installed. German technology web site tecchannel.de published an analysis of the Windows Update communication protocol in February 2003, which received wide attention on technology web sites. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

In Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, the web site is no longer used to provide a user interface for selecting and downloading updates. In its place, the Automatic Updates control panel has been expanded to provide similar functionality. Support for Microsoft Update is also built into the operating system, but is off by default. The revised Windows Update can also be set automatically download and install both Important and Recommended updates. Such updates were only available through the Windows Update web site in prior versions of Windows.
Revised Restart dialog box in Windows Vista

In prior versions of Windows, updates requiring a reboot would pop up a dialog box requesting that the user reboot their machine every number of specified minutes.[10] This dialog box was changed to allow the user to select a longer period of time (up to 4 hours) before being prompted again. The revised dialog box also displays under other applications, instead of on top of them.

Windows Update makes use of Transactional NTFS, a file system feature introduced with Windows Vista, when performing updates to Windows system files. This feature helps Windows recover cleanly in the event of an unexpected shut-down during an update, as the transactioning system will ensure that changes are committed to the file system in an atomic fashion.[11]
